This Standard specifies the steel tubes (hereafter referred to as "tubes") used for piping at exceptionally low temperatures of freezing point or under.

It is generally applicable to tubes of outside diameter 10.5 mm (nominal diameter 6A or 1/8B) to 660.4 mm (nominal diameter 650A or 26B).

In addition to the items specified in the text, the purchaser can designate special quality requirements upon previous agreement with the manufacturer, which are shown in Annex JA.

NOTE 1 Austenitic stainless steel tubes specified in JIS G 3459 and JIS G 3468 can be used for steel tubes for low temperature service.

NOTE 2 The International Standards corresponding to this Standard and the symbol which denotes the degree of correspondence are as follows.

ISO 9329-3 : 1997 Seamless steel tubes for pressure purposes – Technical delivery conditions – Part 3 : Unalloyed and alloyed steels with specified low temperature properties

ISO 9330-3 : 1997 Welded steel tubes for pressure purposes – Technical delivery conditions – Part 3 : Electric resistance and induction welded unalloyed and alloyed steel tubes with specified low temperature properties (Overall evaluation: MOD)

The symbols which denote the degree of correspondense in the contents between the relevant International Standards and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified) and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/lEC Guide 21 -1.
