\n\tESDU 02016 provides both static and dynamic fracture toughness
\ndata for over 150 specifications of cast iron in the grey, chilled,
\nwhite, malleable, ductile and compacted graphite forms. Also
\nincluded are detailed descriptions of the general nature of these
\nirons, and their respective fracture characteristics. Additionally,
\nthe factors likely to influence a measured fracture toughness value
\nfor a given material are considered, as are the peculiarities
\nexperienced with fracture toughness testing of cast iron. The
\nfracture toughness data appearing in the Item fall within the
\ntemperature ranges of interest for practical applications, with the
\nfull brittle-to-ductile transition spectrum being considered for a
\nnumber of ductile irons. The applicability of the Barsom
\nTemperature Shift to static fracture toughness values for ductile
\niron is also investigated. The Item contains an in-depth
\nstatistical analysis, offering the user two methods for obtaining a
\ndesign allowable fracture toughness value with a prescribed level
\nof confidence. The first method is the result of studies of the
\ncorrelation between the fracture toughness of various forms of cast
\niron and other parameters: hardness (white and grey cast irons),
\ntensile strength (grey cast iron), and temperature (ductile iron).
\nThe second method is based on the provision of mean fracture
\ntoughness values for each type of material, from which design
\nallowable values can be calculated. A worked example illustrates
\nthe implementation of these techniques, and guidance is given on
\nthe applicability of each method. Standard requirements for cast
\niron compositions and mechanical properties are provided, and
\ndiscrepancies in cast iron fracture toughness measurements obtained
\nthrough the use of different variants of a standard test procedure
\nare considered.\n\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
