Provides a summary of information on fire, tests and flammability relevant to building materials, products and construction, referring to appropriate Australian Standards.
Scope
This part of the Handbook deals generally with matters relating to fire and fire tests concerning building materials, products and construction.
This document lists individual Standards and Codes published by Standards Australia, and identifies appropriate procedures and documents prepared by other Australian and overseas organizations. This document is a general guide directing users to Standards dealing in detail with specific areas of fire hazard assessment, fire protection and fire regulation.
The Handbook does not provide mandatory requirements on fire matters but advises the user on the applicability of State, Territory and local government regulations.
NOTES:
1 The Building Code of Australia (BCA) calls up most of the fire test methods and related Standards needed to define requirements and levels of performance for buildings.
2 The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has a number of fire test methods that are used for ship construction. Appendix A lists several of these IMO Resolutions.
