La présente Norme internationale spécifie les exigences générales qui s'appliquent à la construction et à la
réalisation des essais de type concernant les compas magnétiques à bord des petits navires de longueur de coque
inférieure ou égale à 24 m. Elle s'applique aux compas magnétiques liquides qui peuvent être contrôlés (c'est-àdire
non scellés) et qui sont soit équipés d'un système de lecture directe, soit sont du type à réflexion ou à
projection.
La présente Norme internationale couvre également les compas magnétiques (3.1) non montés sur suspensions à
la cardan. Les exigences relatives aux suspensions à la cardan ne s'appliquent pas à ce type de compas
magnétiques.
La présente Norme internationale ne s'applique pas
? aux compas secs;
? aux types de compas conçus selon des principes différents de ceux énoncés ci-dessus ou non conformes à la
description faite dans le présent article (compas transmetteurs, par exemple).
