La présente Norme internationale prescrit une méthode de laboratoire permettant de déterminer la teneur en eau et en sédiments du pétrole brut par centrifugation. Les valeurs de fidélité n'ont été déterminées que pour des teneurs en eau allant jusqu'à 1 % ( V/V).NOTE 1: Il a été observé que des méthodes de détermination de la teneur en eau et en sédiments par centrifugation peuvent entrainer, dans certains cas, des résultats erronés. Ceci peut arriver avant tout dans le cas où un agitateur à grande vitesse est utilisé pour obtenir un échantillon représentatif. En conséquence, la méthode n'est pas entièrement satisfaisante et la quantité d'eau déterminée est presque toujours inférieure à la teneur en eau réelle.
