This Standard specifies the general rules for determination of the hardness of vulcanized rubber and thermoplastic rubber.

It is intended to provide types of determination methods of hardness of vulcanized rubber and thermoplastic rubber, and assist in the selection of an appropriate method.

NOTE: The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

ISO 18517: 2005 Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic-Hardness testing- Introduction and guide (MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/lEC Guide 21-1.
